| This site introduces
cyclists to the benefits of "Virtual Cycling" and provide information,
resources and links to related web sites. Virtual Reality cycling (VR)
offers the cyclist the ability to ride, train and race alone
or against other racing league cyclist (also in real time) at times to
suit themselves and always in the dry. Allowing the rider to maintain fitness throughout the year. |
Prices vary according to the type of Trainer. Tacx are the leading brand of home bicycle trainers in the UK, their flagship virtual reality (vr) turbo trainers or cycletrainers Tacx i-Magic (iMagic), Tacx Fortius and Tacx Fortius Multiplayer give a PC based Virtual Reality experience. Cosmos and Flow are for those focusing on high quality training schedules, other turbo trainers are Tacx Antares, Tacx Bushido, Tacx Cosmos, Tacx Flow, Tacx Grand Excel, Tacx Satori, Tacx Swing, Tacx Sirius & Tacx CycleTrack. A racing or training league is available at the Virtual Cycling Federation (VCF) Web Site. Tandem Bicycles can also be used on the Tacx i Magic or Tacx Fortius turbo trainer.
- Fortius Multiplayer - Fortius Multiplayer really is the top of the bill. This extremely advanced VR trainer is very complete with its manoeuvrable steering frame and a one-year licence for webracing. The high-tech trainer challenges you to push your limits ever further. Both literally and figuratively. The engine brake features the PowerBack System; the energy that you generate is delivered back into the power grid.
- Fortius (T1940) - This is Tacx’s most advanced VR trainer. This trainer has a hyper modern interface featuring an oval ring containing the keys. The trainer is equipped with a powerful engine brake that simulates climbs and descents. When you are climbing you will experience almost the same resistance as if you were outside and when you are descending you do not have to pedal, because the engine will let your wheel spin.
- Velodrome - The oval wooden track invite you to push back the frontiers during races. Cheering supporters are there in force. You can choose whether to ride during the day or in the evening under the spotlights. The atmosphere is animated and boisterous. The announcer informs spectators about the riders and their performance. You can even watch yourself cycling on the big video screen high up in the stadium. The scoreboard shows your scores and your opponents' scores too.
- Extreme MTB - Extreme Mountainbike is the best outdoor experience currently available. Ride across this, the ultimate in rugged terrain with massive jumps, cross raging rivers, along the extensive waterfall and over the timber suspension bridge heading for the subterranean labyrinth. Start at the top of the hill for the ultimate experience in riding downhill, go through the military training ground, watching out for the low-flying C130 aircraft. A construction site with large trucks, bulldozers and gigantic water mains provide the total experience in a quarry environment.
- Real Life Video - There are now more than twenty films of legendary stages and cycling classics specifically for the Tacx Virtual Reality trainers When the films are linked to your Trainer your cycling speed impacts the speed of the film. If you are riding up a mountain in the film you will experience so much resistance from the brake that the incline is actually tangible. Starting this year the Real Life Videos are also available in wide screen, meaning that, with the help of your Virtual Reality steering frame, you can explore the course even more. You can veer left or right. This makes the experience of riding in the film even more dynamic.
- ErgoVideo - With ErgoVideo you can join in a training ride with world-class pro-cyclists. This is a very efficient way of improving your technique and fitness in record time. Identify yourself with talented riders and experience a training session while riding in the group. Measure yourself with the pros and experience the ride as it was the day the film was shot. When they speed up, you will have to also, when they take it easy you can catch your breath. Such a training ride will show you how the world’s best athletes train.
- Catalyst & Analyser - Catalyst training programs are designed for power, heart rate and gradient and therefore also suited for professional fitness tests. Thanks to the Analyser software graphs and stats will give you clear insight in your training sessions.
- Catalyst 3D - (soon to be released) A training program is transformed into a virtual course with the camera following the rider from behind. If it’s a fitness training program the road will be straight. If it’s a training on a GPS-ride (a real existing ride) you will also encounter corners while you are riding. A virtual figurine personifies your position. This way a boring work out turns into a fun experience.
- I-Magic (T1900) - Just like Fortius, i-Magic has a hyper modern interface that gives you easy access from your bike to all of the possibilities. The electro-magnetic brake seamlessly matches anything you would experience on the road. You will feel the rolling, air and incline resistances. You will also feel if you are riding on smooth asphalt or a bumpy path through the woods, through loose sand or wet grass.
- Tacx Bushido (T1980) - The world's first wireless ergotrainer
The Bushido is the newest ergotrainer by Tacx and by far the most advanced available today. But that is not all there is to the Bushido. Not only will the handlebar-mounted computer show you all the necessary information (power, heart rate, cadence, speed, time, etc.) on its graphic display, it also features capacitive keys that will react to the energy from your fingers. Operation is stunningly easy; the menus have been designed such that you can start at once. - Tacx Antares(T1000) - The Antares rollers are Tacx’s revolutionary contribution to the new found popularity of track racing. Their design is state of the art; thanks to the conical rollers your ride will be extra stable. With the Antares you can now focus even more on your goals in training: improve your fitness and pedal stroke and reinforce your sense of equilibrium at the same time. When you ride without the brace you will need to concentrate. This is vital to track racing. Tacx Antares rollers distinguish themselves through the heavy conical rollers that create the momentum of mass inertia. When collapsed the rollers measure only 80 cm and are therefore easily transportable.
- VR Steering Frame (T1905) - This is included as standard with the Fortius Multiplayer and is available as an option with both of the other VR trainers. The VR steering frame is absolutely essential in order to experience the interactive game element at its best. Every movement of the handlebars is immediately visible on screen, leaving you free to decide where you want to ride.
- Trainer Tyre (Tire) -Specially developed for riding on a home trainer. The rubber compound minimizes overheating, slippage and wear. The Tacx trainer tire is more silent than standard bicycle tires. Not suitable for outdoor cycling.
For racing bikes 23-622 (700x23c) T1390
For mountain bikes 26x1.25 T1395
- Sweat Cover (T1365) - Sweat caused by intensive workouts can make your bike corrode. Tacx’s sweat cover was manufactured from moisture-absorbing materials and designed so as to give your bike optimum protection.
- Trainer Mat - The Tacx trainer mat is an excellent base for your training sessions. It protects the floor surface and dampens sound. Finished exclusively in nylon and featuring a non-slip coating and additional reinforcing in order to prevent wear and tear when getting on and off. Collapsible and lightweight.
- Upgrade VR - Upgrade your ergotrainer to a Virtual Reality trainer. This pack offers you the new Fortius Multiplayer software with one year's free license to cycle in real-time competitions on the internet and using the ultramodern interface.
- Riders View - Without the iMagic (i-Magic) to train on in the dark evenings, the wet and cold days and to push myself to higher levels, I would not be riding as competitively in my 'real' races. The iMagic, Fortius and Netathlon makes riding a turbo trainer very interesting and addictive, the virtual cycling community and competition also spurs you on to ride harder.
- Braking System - Programmed so you actually experience rolling, air and slope resistance, the resistance offered at every position in the VR terrains is passed on to the brake, so you know immediately if you’re on the road, the course, or cycling over grass.
